THE ANNUAL GALA
Put Recovery to Work
The Gino Macchio Foundation's Annual Gala helps to provide opportunity to those in recovery who are ready to take the next step. Research shows that working helps people overcome substance misuse & stay sober, instilling meaning in their lives & strengthening the desire to remain sober. As such, we're empowering individuals in recovery by providing employment opportunities, and training support to businesses and organizations to become Recovery Friendly Workplaces.

Through the power of giving, ingenuity and education we are creating sustainability while transforming lives and the environment in which we all live
Oysters and Clams purify the Great South Bay as they filter the water for their food. An adult oyster can filter as much as 50 gallons of water a day.
Sediment and nitrogen cause problems in Bay waters. Oysters filter these both either by consuming them as food or shape them into small packets, which are deposited on the bottom where they are not harmful.
Clams and Oysters once filtered the entire Great South Bay once every 2 ½ days. At current population levels it takes 100 days to filter the bay. We must repopulate the bay to have an impact.
