Gino Macchio Foundation: Our Story

CINEMATIC TRAILER

It began with a dream… Gino’s dream.

This is the story of how the Gino Macchio Foundation was born. Despite their heartache; family and friends found solace in Gino’s dream to repopulate oysters in the Great South Bay. Together, we have built technology, inspired by Gino’s designs, which has helped to clean up the Great South Bay, as well as assist local Oyster Farms to reach sustainability.

In Addition to delivering meals to our medical professionals, the Gino Macchio Foundation also delivered PPE, reusable respirators, reusable respirator storage bags and coverall suits to keep them safe.

Through the power of giving, ingenuity and education we are creating sustainability while transforming lives and the environment in which we all live

Oysters and Clams purify the Great South Bay as they filter the water for their food. An adult oyster can filter as much as 50 gallons of water a day.

Sediment and nitrogen cause problems in Bay waters. Oysters filter these both either by consuming them as food or shape them into small packets, which are deposited on the bottom where they are not harmful.

Clams and Oysters once filtered the entire Great South Bay once every 2 ½ days. At current population levels it takes 100 days to filter the bay. We must repopulate the bay to have an impact.
